SME Program Aids Local Education
Through the Sonora Microenterprise Program, with help from SBDC consultants, Sonora educator Chara Shopp has launched a new business – JumpStart Kids – a summer enrichment program for children entering kindergarten, first and second grades. Set in a friendly environment, her program is language arts focused, literature based, and enrichment minded. Structured to be creative and fun, Chara uses a proven multi-sensory approach that develops learning skills. Children learn decoding, phonemic awareness and word building skills, as well as proper letter formation in writing.
Chara worked with consultants Lynda K. King, Claudia Newcorn, Greg Falken, Robert Potter and Cole Przybyla, who helped her develop a detailed business and marketing strategy and plan, as well as developing a broader long-term business strategy. She launched her website and Facebook page in late May and is currently accepting enrollments.
