Do you have the next “Great Idea?” Enter the Stanislaus Innovation Challenge and make your “Best Pitch” for a chance to get your idea funded.
The “Challenge” is designed to assist people in Stanislaus County who have viable and innovative new ideas or products. The focus of the program is to determine if their idea has commercial potential, help them develop their idea into a viable concept and then help those with the best concepts locate and secure funding. The Challenge will hold mini-competitions in five communities within Stanislaus County this year. The winners of each of the local competitions will then compete in a final round for a cash prize and professional services to help them develop their concept and move toward market introduction.

Stanislaus County Residents, College Students or Business Owners are eligible to enter.
Interested persons are invited to submit an application to enter the 2016 Challenge. Applicants describe their idea by answering several key questions and clicking on the “submit” button at the end of the online application or by emailing the completed hard copy application to firstname.lastname@example.org. Completed applications will be reviewed and those that best meet the completion criteria will be invited to present to a panel of three experienced entrepreneurs at the next local competition. Applications must be submitted prior to the deadline to be considered for the next competition. Once a person submits their application they may be invited to compete in any of the remaining 2016 events. A person can apply with more than one idea. Each concept must be submitted on a separate application.
Those who have completed an application and best meet the criteria will be invited to present at the next local competition by email and/or phone.
Each presenter will have a total of 3 minutes to “Pitch” their idea to the panel. Judges will have 1 minute to provide feedback to each competitor about their “Pitch”. Presenters are NOT allowed to respond to the judges’ feedback. Then each judge and each member of the audience will vote for their two favorite competitors. The three competitors garnering the most votes move forward to a second round of the competition that evening.
Round two is a series of nine prepared questions asked of each finalist by the judges. The order that each of the three finalists is called up will be determined by the M/C. Judges rotate asking one question at a time. Each finalist has up to 30 seconds to answer each question. After each presentation, each Judge has up to 2 minutes to provide feedback or ask participants any final questions. Participants are allowed to quickly answer the judges’ questions within the two minutes.
After the interviews the judges and the audience will vote for their favorite competitor. The person with the most votes is declared the “winner” of that competition and advances to the final “Money Round” competition on December 8th. Local competitions will be held in Modesto, Patterson, Ceres, Oakdale and Turlock.
A final “Money” round event will be held in Modesto on December 8th with each of the winners of the five local competitions invited to compete. The 1st and 2nd place winners of the final competition will share $5,000 in cash and $3,000 in professional services to help them develop their idea. 1st place will receive $3,500 in cash and 2nd place $1,500 and each of them will also be entered into the 8-county 2017 Regional San Joaquin Entrepreneur’s Challenge for a chance to win a share of over $20,000 in cash and professional services.
Alliance SBDC staff and consultants are available to help applicants complete their application. Throughout the competition, participants will be encouraged to use Alliance resources to guide them forward and prepare their competition pitch(s). The Alliance has professional consulting and demographic/market research available no-cost. Plus SBDC services are available at no-cost to help develop business their ideas whether they enter the completion or not.
